Docker, Kubernetes & Co

New paradigms in application development (agile, devops, micro services) require a change of pace for traditional IT.

While they ensure tangible benefits such as reducing time-to-market and cost, on the other hand, they also pose new challenges especially to those who deal with operations.

For microarchive architectures, the adoption of containerization technology is now considered a best practice, and in this view, the enterprise level standard is Docker Enterprise.

However, containerization alone is not enough: to deliver a production application, there is the need for a solution for orchestrating, automating deployments and scaling, monitoring the status of each micro service, and reacting automatically in case of failure.

In this view, the solution that is being imposed as a de facto standard is Kubernetes, the orchestrator developed by Google and now released and handed over to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.

A few days ago Docker Inc. announced that it will integrate Kubernetes support into its Docker Platform (both in enterprise and community version).

A similar choice was made by the larger cloud providers who either directly propose Kubernetes-fully managed or a template for its creation.

Through its partnership with Docker and the experience gained in managing Kubernetes in production environments for some of its clients, IKS (a Kirey Group company) can support businesses in adopting and managing microsite architectures.
