A ransomware attack forces the Eritage Company to lay off 300 employees due to extensive damage to its systems.

A dangerous ransomware attack hit the US telemarketing corporate Heritage Company, forcing it to temporarily suspend operations and then fire 300 people just before the Christmas holidays.

Sandra Franecke, the company’s CEO, wrote a letter addressed to employees. The company’s servers were hacked by a ransomware attack two months ago (November 2019) Despite the attempt to pay the ransom demanded by the cybercriminals for the release of the decryption keys, the situation remained critical “[…] I.T. has done everything possible to restore all our data, but there is still a long way to go” said Franecke in an open letter sent to employees.

Companies should consider this accident as a security warning: it is extremely important to establish relevant security practices to protect data and systems.
