We Grow, a tree for every new employee in Kirey Group digital orchard

Kirey Group

The fruit produced for the “green welcome kit” will be donated to Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus

At Kirey Group, we want the company's business to not only support our growth, but also a prosperous and healthy environment. That's how a few weeks ago we launched the “We Grow” project, our digital orchard that has already begun to populate and will continue to grow with a new tree for every new employee. An unconventional, green, and sustainable welcome kit for new colleagues.

The project, made possible by collaboration with Biorfarm and Lifegate, allows us to support 10 small Italian farmers and at the same time to measure the impact on CO2 absorbed by our orchard. Thus, we grow and cultivate all over the country: from the apples of Paolo Rossi Organic Farm in Clès, Trentino Alto Adige, to the oranges of Leone Organic Farm in Noto, Sicily. There are 20 trees in our orchard today, but the goal is to reach 100 by the end of 2023.

We chose Biorfarm because we share the values of this digital farm: the support of small Italian farmers, who thanks to the short supply chain can see the proper value of their products recognized, and the choice to support organic farming, which promotes biodiversity and a pesticide-free diet.

A virtuous circle: the donation of fruit to Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus

People hired at Kirey Group in October and November have already received their tree, and through Biorfarm they will be able to follow its care and cultivation online, gathering interesting information about fruit, which is also useful for making increasingly conscious food choices.

But what is the ultimate destination of the fruit produced by the trees in Kirey Group's digital orchard? With this initiative, we have chosen to support the local area by tying our commitment not only to the environment but also to the community. That is why the entire harvest will be donated to Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus, which will distribute it to charities and people in need.

Attention to the environment is the common thread of the entire project, which from the cultivated field arrives at the final destination of the virtuous circle we are committed to creating: in fact, we have chosen to send 50 kilos of fruit at a time, preferring a few shipments with a large load rather than standard 5-kilo shipments, to have a lower environmental impact related to the road transport of fruit. This was also possible thanks to the widespread structure of Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus which, with such an extensive network, can store and distribute large quantities of food in time for consumption.

With our first 10 trees in the digital orchard, the first load of Morgenduft Apples, from Azienda Agricola Boggian (VR), has already been delivered. And this is just the beginning of this shared value chain, to which we are proud to have contributed.
